Gino Saccone (Jersey 1979), lives and works in London. His work caught the eye of the art world after had spent two years at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam in 2009-2010. Saccone has Italian roots – his father is from Sicily.  His work is traditional en experimental at the same time. He uses modern 3D techniques to produce ancient looking tapestries, but he also draws and makes watercolours. For his new tapestries he took some of his watercolours as a starting point. Shifting between techniques and materials Gino Saccone proves to be an artist who is well aware of the meaning of imagery in today’s world. By giving everthing he does a personal and authentic touch and feel he stand out as an artist.

Mieke van Schaijk Gallery is showing three new tapestries of Gino Saccone that he made at the Textile Lab in the town of Tilburg in the Netherlands. He translated some of his figurative watercolors he made in Los Angeles into these tapestriess. One of them calles ‘Deejay Plant' and measures 150 x 100 cm. The other two - ‘Bandits’ and ‘Weightlifters’ - are a bit smaller but in the same ‘western style' in comic like naive figuration. The gallery also show a large tapestriy of 230 x 160 cm. Gino Saccone’s work is very colourfull and elaborate and shows his imagination in a profound way.
