Galerie Mieke van Schaijk is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition ‘Paintings’ by Daniëlle Hoogendoorn.
Daniëlle Hoogendoorn is a participant in the jump! programme, the visual arts talenthub of the province of North-Brabant, and is accompanied in this by Galerie Mieke van Schaijk. Niek Hendrix is the administrator of lost-painters.nl, a web magazine in which he has reported on positions and ideas in contemporary visual art since 2010. Hendrix will host the opening of the exhibition and he has written an accompanying text. In his text, Hendrix characterises Daniëlle Hoogendoorn’s work as follows, among other things:
“It is not about representation. The most mundane thing is not elevated to a profound subject, it becomes a painting. By making the subject so banal, little is left but the painting itself: the balance between abstraction and figuration, the composition, the use of colour and brushstrokes. It is that play itself, painting for the sake of painting, that is to be appreciated.”
Daniëlle Hoogendoorn graduated from the HKU in Utrecht in 2014 and took part in the residency programme at Roodkapje Rotterdam in 2020, and the residency at Bambo Curtain Studio in Taiwan in 2021 through the Mondriaan Fund. In 2023/24, she is a participant of jump!.
